Cast and credits for the 2002 season. |
|
The 2001 season at the Globe celebrated Shakespeare's great tragedies, now in 2002 we will see some
of his great comedies. It is to be hoped that the world in 2002 will continue to reflect our productions.
|
The season opens in May with Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and is followed shortly after by
A Midsummer Night's Dream also by William Shakespeare. In August a third play joins the
repertoire; Peter Oswald's The Golden Ass. In 1999 Peter was responsible for the incredibly
moving Augustine's Oak which was loved by virtually everyone who saw it.
|
The first recorded performance of Twelfth Night was on the 2nd February 1602 when it was performed
in the Middle Temple Hall in the City of London. It subsequently moved to the Globe. Now, 400 years later
a new Globe company commences their run of Twelfth Night in that same building, which was one of
the few buildings within the City to survive the great fire of 1666 and remains largely unchanged to
this day. The Globe's production of Twelfth Night in the Middle Temple Hall is intended to be the most
authentic production ever attempted by the staff of the new Globe Theatre and it is hoped that many of
these features will be carried over into the Globe itself when the Summer season commences.
|
Tickets for Twelfth Night at the Middle Temple Hall were exclusively available to the Friends of Shakespere's
Globe (FOSG) as a tribute to the support that the organisation has made over the years
to the reconstruction and upkeep of the Globe. The entire run was sold out within days of the tickets going on
sale.
